I recently purchased a secondhand horsebox from Chris at Tony Bolwell & Son after it was highly recommended by a close friend. Safety was my top priority, so I insisted on having the vehicle inspected by a reputable independent horsebox inspector. After viewing and rejecting three other horseboxes elsewhere, I was delighted that Chris’s horsebox passed the inspection with flying colours.

While the living area wasn’t quite what I was looking for initially, that was never a problem. Chris went above and beyond to help tailor it to exactly my requirements—and even exceeded my expectations. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and his customer service throughout the entire process was exceptional.

The best part is that Chris will continue to look after the horsebox for me going forward, which gives me real peace of mind. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Chris and Tony Bolwell & Son, and I’ll certainly be returning in the future.

Tony Bolwell & Son Ltd carried out extensive work on our classic Daimler-Benz 608D custom built motorhome. The vehicle had already been converted in a very unique style, which we wanted to keep, but the functional items like the wiring, water system etc. were in a very poor state of repair. In addition, we wanted a tail lift fitted to be able to carry a large motorbike. None of the local campervan or motorhome installers were able to meet our bespoke requirements within a sensible budget so we were very relieved to have been steered towards Tony Bolwell & Son.

Chris Bolwell spent a lot of time with us planning the work required and came up with a range of creative solutions to achieve the result we were looking for. We were particularly keen that the work was done in keeping with the classic style of the vehicle, but with up to date functionality.

Overall, the work was done to a high standard at a realistic price. We were very happy with the outcome and will definitely use this company again for any further work required.

Work carried out included:

New solar panels
Complete wiring of 12v and 240v leisure systems, including locating the leisure batteries under the vehicle – some really nice additional touches like touch on/off lights, a light for the cab and some LEDs around the bed
Fitting and wiring the tail lift
Installing under vehicle water tanks for fresh water and waste – plumbing into existing system
Fitting seat and lap belts to allow up to two passengers
Installing and setting up rear view camera
Re-installing the roof deck
Modifying the front passenger seat, allowing it to be folded back for easier access to the vehicle – this was particularly difficult to achieve and Chris came up with an excellent solution.

“Our elderly MAN horsebox had a ramp that was impossible for one small female to use and almost impossible for two. It was not only heavy, but out of line, so it did not fit the aperture properly and you had to jam it in to close, putting pressure on all the fixings. On several occasions, we couldn’t even unload our horses without enlisting extra muscle and began to dread going to remote venues such as riding on the Downs. Chris at Tony Bolwell came to the rescue, spending a lot of time and effort getting everything right. He respected our deadline and stuck to his estimate and our ramp can now be easily opened and closed single-handedly. Upon a local recommendation I called Bolwells and they came to inspect the lorry within the hour arranging to collect it from the field (literally) where I was training later in the day.
